| * Social cultural dynamics: Social development: tradition practices, land use philosophies and their impact on peace and conflicts; social transformation induced by natural factors; politics and environmental management, gender and equity, poverty and environmental management, demographic dynamics and environment, negotiations and consensus building; community participation, Community empowerment and involvement of multi-stakeholders in protection, conservation and environmental restoration: knowledge transfer, indigenous knowledge, capacity building, mobilization; public versus private interests; application of environmental and social impact assessment; case studies * Environmental Resource Economics: Interactions of environment and economy; renewable verses non-renewable resources; scarcity and competition; natural resource based conflicts and governance, demography dynamics, access and benefit sharing, payment for environmental services, resource valuation, resource apportionment; criteria for decision-making (static and dynamic CBA); case studies. Determination of sustainable optimum yields * Environmental Law and institutional framework: Philosophy of law and environmental jurisprudence, environmental policy, and governance, intellectual property rights, community rights, international treaties and conventions and link to national policies on environment Lobbying and advocacy, international conventions and their link to national politics and peace; devolved governments (the constitution and county governments) and environment; case studies * Research methods: Role of research in the development of scientific knowledge; problem identification and project development; problem and objective trees, activity schedules, work plans and budget; application of spatial analysis tools; field techniques; study design, sampling, data collection tools; quantitative and qualitative approaches; computer applications; participatory methods; case studies | |||||||||||||||
