Kursusindhold
It has been known for years that new diseases can invade and become established in new areas and that diseases can emerge and cause serious disease problems reducing yield and product quality. However, we now experience an increasing threat of these emerging diseases due to global changes such as new ways of trading plant material and climate changes. Changes in production systems have also revealed new disease threats. Understanding the biology, terminology and concepts connected to the threat of invasive and emerging plant diseases is therefore an important part of PhD-education in plant pathology. The course consists of different thematic sessions focussing on the main aspects of invasion biology, how invasion can be identified and what can be done to counteract establishment or emergence of new diseases. The course will provide a broad range of tools to the students - from modelling to population genetics. There is a red thread in the course helping students with linking theoretical concepts with real cases.
