Kursusindhold
The focus will be on non-communicable diseases in adults and the effect of diet/nutrient intake on these.
Main topics are: Malnutrition (obesity and undernutrition); metabolic syndrome; diabetes; cardiovascular diseases; food allergies, food intolerance, osteoporosis and cancer.
 
Undervisningsform
Lectures, theoretic exercises and discussions in plenum.
 
Målbeskrivelse
The main objective of the course is to give the student an understanding of the relation between diet, nutrition and non-communicable diseases in adulthood.

After completing the course the students should be able to:
- describe the pathogenesis of the most important life style (diet/nutrients, sleep/stress and physical activity) related non-communicable diseases (i.e the metabolic syndrome, T2DM, CVD and cancer)
- describe the effects of life style (diets/nutrients, physical activity) on prevention and treatment of some non-communicable diseases (including risk factors for these deceases)
- explain and discuss the mechanisms behind the influence of diet/nutrients, sleep/stress and physical activity on non communicable diseases on a systemic as well as, organ, tissue and cellular level
