| The course is theoretical and basic intellectual property right issues will be taught in parallel with patent reading classes and group work on a miniproject concerning the use of protection of intellectual property rights | |||||||||||||||||

| Lectures, group work, discussions and presentations in relation to the project: 20 hours of lectures, 20 hours patent reading classes, 125 hours project work, 20 hours computer exercises and 20 hours for preparation | |||||||||||||||||

| After completion of the course the student is expected to have the following knowledge, skills and competences: Knowledge - Describe the relationship between patenting and scientific discovery - Describe the patenting process and how it relates to the international patent authorities and organizations - Understand patents as strategic tools in business development - Understand how intellectual property rights relates to and handles genetic sequences and other biological material Skills - Read and interpret patents within bioscience - Determine the freedom to operate for a given new bio-product emphasizing intellectual property rights - Understand the importance of intellectual property rights in interacting with external partners both industrial and academic - Understand the value of intellectual property rights Competences - Identify relevant patent and patent applications within a specific bioscience field - Make a well documented report concerning the use of protection of intellectual property rights - Exploit knowledge in relevant patents and patent applications within a specific bio-science field | |||||||||||||||||
