End of 1st blok. c. Research paper. Topic selected at begining of course, presented at the end. Maximum Two(2) Students on each paper. Contributions of each student are agreed upon at the begining. Each student evaluated according to individual contribution and upon individual questions during presentation. d. Overall Objective The main objective of the course is to provide the student with analytical tools and field knowledge: a. The necessary analytical tools for the study of the agri-food industry and the organizations therein b. An understanding of structure, functions and current issues in the agri-food economy from input industry to farm to processing to distribution and retail in Denmark, Europe and internationally. The course is divided in two parts according to methodology and literature used: A. Industrial Organization; B. New Institutional Economics. After completing the course the student should be able to: Knowledge: a. Know the main developments in modern industrial organization theory and the theory as it is applied to the agri-food industry b. Know the main developments in modern new institutional economics theory and theory of the firm as it is applied to the agri-food industry and agribusiness c. Know the models of supply chain management, contracts and networks d. Describe and analyze issues pertaining in the agri-food industry such as mergers, competition vertical integration, and innovation e. describe and analyze industrial policies related to competition in the agri-food industry f. Describe the structure of agri-food industries in Denmark, Europe and elsewhere g. Describe and analyze the special role of agri-food cooperatives and farm organizations Skills a. Use modern industrial organization models with game theory applications to agri-food industry applications b. Use new institutional economics, theory and applications c. Use modern theory of the firm, and contract theory and applications Competences: a. Identify, describe and analyze functions, structure and other issues in the agri-food industry in Denmark, Europe and internationally b. Apply modern industrial organization models and quantitative methods on problems and issues in the agri-food industry c. Apply new institutional economics and quantitative methods on problems and issues in the agri-food industry d.
