Description of Examination: Description of Examination: a. Written exam (2 hrs): Questions and exercises on theory and applications b. Theoretical exercises during the course prepared and handed in individually c. Research paper. Topic selected at beginning of course, presented at the end. Two Students on each paper. Contributions of each student are agreed upon at the beginning. Each student evaluated according to individual contribution and upon individual questions during presentation.

Weight: Written exam: 40% Theoretical exercises 30% Research paper & presentation: 30%

Teaching And Learning Methods
a. Class lectures b. Lectures and discussions with industry experts c. Visit agri-business organizations d. Presentation and analysis of existing case studies e. Writing of a case study. The case study report is written in close collaboration with industry experts f. Presentation in the form of a mini workshop with assigned discussants and audience of experts
 
Learning Outcome
The main objective of the course is to provide the student with analytical tools and field knowledge:
a. The necessary analytical tools for the study of the agri-food industry and the organizations therein
b. An understanding of structure, functions and current issues in the agri-food economy from input industry to farm to processing to distribution and retail in Denmark, Europe and internationally.

After completing the course the student should be able to:

Knowledge:
a. Know the main developments in modern new institutional economics theory and theory of the firm as it is applied to the agri-food industry and agribusiness
b. Know the models of supply chain management, contracts and networks
c. Describe the structure of agri-food industries in Denmark, Europe and internationally
d. Describe and analyze the special role of agri-food cooperatives and farm organizations

Skills
a. Use new institutional economics, theory and applications
b. Use modern theory of the firm, and contract theory and applications

Competences
a. Identify describe and analyze the functions, structure and issues in the agri-food industry
in Denmark, Europe and internationally
b. Apply new institutional economics and quantitative methods on problems and issues in the agri-food industry
