| The course is project-based with flexible elements in relation to each student's interest and background. In the project the student will make an in-depth analysis of crop production and/or natural resource management under tropical conditions within a specific area such as: - Small-holder irrigation - Quantitative on-farm experiments - N-fixation in cropping systems - Appropriate technology The project report will be developed based on literature and case studies. The course can be regarded as an extension of the course Land Resources and Crop Production in the Tropics and may be used as a preparation for a master thesis. | |||||||||||||||
| Undervisningsform | |||||||||||||||
| The course will be based on project work and include tutorials, presentation and discussion of project work during the course and individual supervision of project themes. The students will work individually or in small groups on project topics selected in relation to the students background and interest. Topics for tutorials wil be selected in relation to project topics. Tutorials and group work presentations will engage all participants. No lectures are given in the course. | |||||||||||||||

| Knowledge - Describe data from reports and scientific papers on specific topic within tropical agriculture and natural resource management such as small-holder irrigation, quantitative on-farm experiments, N-fixation in cropping systems and appropriate technology. - Summarize findings based on litterature reviews within a specific areas of tropical crop production and natural resource management. - Give overview of general topics within crop production, plant nutrition, irrigation and land use under tropical conditions. Skills - Analyse data from reports and scientific papers on a specific topic within tropical agriculture. - Explain causes and effects of specific undertakings to improve crop production in the tropical environment - Communicate knowledge orally and in writing of an in depth analysis of a specific topic within tropical agriculture related to crop production, plant nutrition and natural resource management. Competences - Discuss theories, findings and development trends within tropical agriculture related to crop production, soil fertility and water use . - Evaluate specific topics within tropical agriculture in relation to the over-all agricultural development in the tropics. - Identify ethical problems related to development within specific areas of tropical agriculture. | |||||||||||||||
