The teaching will have its main fokus on: (1) Methods for analysis, assesment and evaluation of landscape including introduction to: Historical-, area- and spatial-(visual) analyses, value- and vulnerability analyses as well as introduction to the concept of landscape chararcter assesment. (2) Methods for examinining preferences, values and attitudes in relation to landscapes including: interviews and different types of preference examination methods (3) Content of policies and strategies for the protection and enhancement of rural landscapes includes the following subjects: the landscape convention, countryside stewardsship schemes, nationalparks, afforesstation and other incentives schemes | |||||||||||||||||
Undervisningsform | |||||||||||||||||
Teaching is given in the forms of lectures and discussions, theoretical exercises, seminars and excursions. All lectures will be followed by seminars where students are asked to give small introductory presentations or by group duscussions or exercises. Exercises are done in groups and most exercises will be finalised by a group presenation. | |||||||||||||||||

Rural landscapes are changing constantly partly because of natural processes and partly because of human impact. At the same time the quality of our landscape are receiving increasing attention. The aim of the course is to present knowledge about contemporary landscape changes and its driving forces and to give insights into theories and methods about how to identify landscape characteristics, qualities, values and sensitivity. In addition the course will present knowledge above discourses and policies related to the protection, preservation and enhancement of rural landscapes. The course gives insight into some of the core issues of the Master Education in Countryside Planning and Management, however the course also constitute important supplement to candidates involved in studies of forestry, agronomy, biology, geography and rural sociology. On completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and competence: Knowledge: - Describe the contemporary landscape development and its driving forces - Describe methods for analysis, description and assessment/evaluation of landscapes - Describe methods for examination of preferences, values and attitudes - Describe the content of contemporary policies and discourses related to the protection, maintenance and enhancement of rural landscapes Skills: - Apply methods for description, analysis and assessment/evaluation of landscapes - Apply methods for examination of preferences, values and attitudes - Formulate and communicate strategies for the protection, maintenance and enhancement of rural landscapes Competences: - Work as an individual as well as in groups with people from different disciplines - Discuss rural landscape policies in a wider context including the perspectives of climate changes - Hold a critical and reflective view on contemporary policies and discourse related to the use and protection rural landscapes | |||||||||||||||||
