Anbefalede forudsætningerBasic knowledge in Zoology is required

Begrænset deltagerantalMax. 20 students

Kursusindhold
The course includes introduction to the biology of the most important parasite groups and species elucidating the morphology, life-cycles, physiology and biological potentials. Knowledge also includes the distribution and importance of parasites in natural ecological systems and in human and animal husbandry. Animal groups acting as intermediate hosts will also be covered to some degree.

Undervisningsform
Lectures will in general lines present the animal system with focus on the groups including parasites. In relation to the various groups of parasites the morphological adaption and variation in life-cycles will be presented. Through theoretical exercises it is possible for the students to go into depth of a subject using case studies or project orientated studies.

Målbeskrivelse
Learning outcome
The student will be able to identify parasites, to recognise their morphology, to be able to describe their life cycle, their general biology, course of infection, pathogenesis and epidemiology. Focus will not be on immunology and treatment. The student gain basic knowledge of concepts of parasitism in animals and humans.
The student will be able to understand the living conditions that are important for different parasite species to survive within and outside their hosts.

Skills
Students will obtain basic skills in using parasitological tools to identify parasites in different systematic groups such as protozoans, helminths, and arthropodes.Students will get a basic knowledge biology, life cycle infection, pathogenesis and epidemiology of important parasites.

Competences
Students will obtain knowledge of important parasites in animals and humans. The students will get competences in identifying parasitic problems, and obtain knowledge of how severe the case is and how to solve the problem.
