The basic academic competences are recording, comprehending and reflecting upon the emergence, development and status of landscape architecture in Denmark from the breakthrough of modernism to the present day. The development of landscape architecture is considered in an international context. Historic sources of inspiration and developments in society and the arts, especially architecture are given weight. Additionally students will develop their skills in survey and analysis of green space and works of landscape architecture. The level of competence is 3: Comprehension of basic rules and principles. Competence in terms of applied learning requires an understanding of the principles of conservation, renovation and renewal of landscape sites. The level of competence is 3: Comprehension of specific connections and methods. Competencies within ethics and values require the ability to reflect on and describe the qualities of individual landscapes and the context of their development. Kursets målsætning | |||||||||||||
The course will give landscape architect students, graduates in other subjects and international landscape architect students a broad knowledge of recent landscape architecture with focus on post-war projects. For the international students the course will also act as an introduction to the Copenhagen area. | |||||||||||||

Subjects covered: A. Urban green structure in relation to the historic development of the city B. Specific sites, parks and gardens, cemeteries, sports facilities, urban squares, housing and industrial areas, urban forestry, recreational rural landscape C. Specific landscape architects, G.N. Brandt, C. Th. Sørensen, Axel Andersen, Georg Boye, J. Palle Schmidt, Sven Hansen, Ole Nørregård, Jørgen Vesterholt, Sven Ingvar Andersson, Steen Høyer, Erik Brandt Dam, Torben Schønherr, Jeppe Aagaard Andersen, Stig L. Undervisningsform | |||||||||||||
Teaching will take the form of lectures, seminars, project work and excursions. Teaching will be in English, though some material may be in Danish. Excursions will take in sites of landscape architecture primarily around Copenhagen selected for their high quality and their ability to represent particular landscape types and periods. In the final examination the student's individual sketchbook diary is assessed. Through sketches, diagrams and short notes the sketchbook will demonstrate the student's competence in recording, comprehending and reflecting upon the sites visited. Additionally they will consider site context and the significance of specific landscape architects and working methods. | |||||||||||||
