Areas of Competence the Course Will Address
The competences within basic scienceare an understanding of the emergence, development and status of green spaces in Denmark created during the last 100 years.
Emphasis is placed on modern landscape architecture since 1950. The development of landscape architecture is considered in relation to international trends, historic sources of inspiration and developments in society and the arts, especially architecture. Additionally students will begin to develop a knowledge of surveying and analysis of parks and gardens. The level of competence is 3: Comprehends of basic rules and principles.

Competencies within applied science require an understanding of the principles of conservation and renewal of parks and gardens. The level of competence is 3: Comprehends of specific connections and methods.

Competencies within ethics and values require the ability to reflect on and describe the qualities of individual landscapes and the context of their development. The level of competence is 3: Reflects on.
 
Course Objectives
The course will give first year landscape architect students, graduates in other subjects and international landscape architect students a broad knowledge of 20th century landscape architecture with focus on postwar projects.

For the international students the course is also an introduction to the Copenhagen area as well.
 
Course Contents
Subjects cover:
A. Urban green structure in relation to the historic development of the city.

B.Specific sites
. parks and gardens
. cemeteries
. sports facilities
. urban squares
. housing and industrial areas
. urban forestry
. recreational rural landscape
 
Teaching And Learning Methods
Teaching will take the form of lectures, seminars, project work and excursions. Teaching will be in english, though some material may be in danish language. Excursions will go to sites of landscape architecture - primarily around Copenhagen - which are selected for there high quality and there ability to represent particular landscape types. In the final examination students individual sketch-diary book is assessed. By sketches, diagrams and short notes the diary book shall tell about the sites visited during the course.
