Comprehension of basic principles for occurrence and development of diseases and related risk factors in space and time.

Competences obtained within applied science:
Apply epidemiological principles for a wide group of populations.

Competences obtained within ethics and values:
Can discuss causality in relation to different study design and populations.

Kursets målsætning
After attending the course the studerent should be able to:
· collect, describe and analyse data regarding occurrence of diseases in animal populations
· understand the principles for handling and validation of data from animal populations with respect to evaluation of occurrence of diseases, distribution and causality
· validate the quality of data collected and of results of health related studies with respect to critical evaluation of the conclusions of the study

Kursusindhold
The course gives an extensice knowledge of analytical methods and epidemiological problems, of importance in relation to e.g. herd health management and master thesis.

Agronomists, employed as consultants in animal production, will often collaborate with the veterinarian and the farmer. Therefore, it is of importance to have a common basis for evaluation of disease recordings.

· State objective and hypotheses for a study
· Validate the study design and sampling methods
· Data management
· Evaluate bias and causality
· More advanced epidemiological analyses

Undervisningsform
Be able to perform an analysis of a large data set in groups of approximate 3 participants · E.g. using your own data set · Consider possible problems in the study in relation to the results and the conclusion · Use SAS for statistical analyses · Make a project report Max 30 participants, as intensive supervision to the project groups are given during the project period The course includes lectures and computer exercises as well as individual project work using data from veterinary and animial science (e.g. practices, laboratories, meat inspection)
