Kompetenceområder
Basic Science:
Knowledge of plants of horticultural importance, and ability to recognize them from their morphology and habitus.Knowledge of the correct scientific names, and the use of basic botanical literature.
Applied Science:
Comprehends sufficient botanical knowledge of horticultural plants and weeds as a prerequisite to study and/or work with cultivation, breeding and technological problems within the fields of horticulture incl. crop protection.
Ethics and Values:
Is aware of plants as a genetic resource and the importance of maintaining biodiversity
 
Kursets målsætning
The objective is to provide the student with a thorough botanical knowledge of horticultural crops, ornamentals, and their wild relatives. The taxonomy and morphology of selected families and genera will be reviewed as will the nomenclature (scientific and English)
 
Kursusindhold
The course includes basic knowledge of botanical morphology and life cycles of important vascular plants like mosses, ferns, conifers and angiosperms. It covers the fundamentals of systematic botany, which in turn is the basis of plant knowledge at the family and genus levels.The course is addressed to students who plan to study horticulture, crop protection, plant pathology, landscape architecture or other subjects including cultivated plants.
 
Undervisningsform
During the course lectures and tutorials reviewing the syllabus will be conducted. The course aims to provide a thorough knowledge of a number of plant families of horticultural interest. In the practical work dried/live plant material, textbooks, floras, reference books as well as internet sites and other illustrative material will be used. Field trips will be included.
