Basic Science: none
Applied Science:
Understanding ecological food production systems and their economic and social context. Knowledge of the connection between organic food production and food quality.

Ethics and Values:
Understanding of the historical and philosophical background of ecological agriculture
Understanding of the concept of sustainability and its use in evaluation of food production systems
Reflection on group project work
 
Course Objectives
The goal of the course is to allow the students to concentrate on important aspects of organic farming and to study it more in depth. The course focus mainly on the human context of organic farming and thus complements the topics dealt with in 250015 (Ecological Agriculture 1a).
 
Course Contents
The course consists of a series of workshops on key issues within ecological agriculture, a three day excursion as well as a group project. Issues are selected within areas of concern in relation to sustainability and development of ecological food production systems, e.g. food systems, the organic consumer and food ethics.
 
Teaching And Learning Methods
Student and staff lead workshops as well as a three day excursion will form the base for selection of key issues within ecological agriculture, to be explored in a problem based group project.
