Kursets målsætning
The objective of this course is first of all to provide graduate students with advanced knowledge in trade theory and trade policy analysis that contains the major threads of the existing literature. And based on these acquired skills to analyze various regional and multilateral international economic relations in the project work.
 
Kursusindhold
The content of this course falls in five parts. First, new trade theory where imperfect competition plays a major role in explaining the emergence of trade between similar countries in similar products. Second, economic geography is introduced and analyzed in order to explain where production takes place and concentrates. Third, the theory of trade policy is reintroduced and brought up to graduate level. Fourth, Economic integration and cooperation theories are presented in combination with institutional analysis of regional arrangements and agreements. Five, an integration of trade theory and trade policy theory with integration and cooperation theory in the context of specific policy areas such as agriculture.
 
Undervisningsform
The course is a thematic course. The project is based on individually chosen topics within trade and international cooperation. Lectures in course curriculum, discussion groups, theoretical exercises, project work in groups.
