Course Objectives
The course aims at giving the student understanding of the basic statistical methods used in biology. It is also intended to give some practical examples relevant in horticulture and some practice in the handling of data using a statistical computer program.
 
Course Contents
Basic concepts in probability and statistics
Descriptive statistics
Point estimation
Hypothesis testing and interval estimation for one sample and two samples
Non-parametric methods
Analysis of variance, regression and correlation
A computer program for the statistical analysis
Mathematics part: Refreshing and consolidating high school calcus including simple differential equations, exponential functions, vector calculations etc.
 
Teaching And Learning Methods
Lectures, classroom (problem-solving exercises), computer sessions and project work.

Mathematics: Photocopied pages with exercises (and solutions) will be handed out
