Kursets målsætning
The main objective is to give the student a basic and concrete understanding of technology used in biological production and the related, applied research field. This also includes fundamentals in the physical background and the focus is on the practical tasks for system solutions.
The students will after the course have an insight to the "technology terminology world", giving them skills to communicate with technology experts.
 
Kursusindhold
The course framework is the plant, crop, and technology. A further aim is to give a basic knowledge of the traditional technical terminology in the field in order to train skills in relevant communication with technology experts.
The student should after the course be able to:
· Demonstrate and document the main function and control of technical systems from a biological perspective.
· Evaluate system performance results based on experimental research work
· Design of experimental research setup.
The course is a 'hands on' course were students perform practical work centered on cases from practical horticultural production.

Examples of cases are:
Greenhouse climate dynamic controlling
Sorting and grading of horticultural products
Expert system for application control of fertilizer and pesticides
Greenhouse automation
Sensors for crop monitoring (the speaking plant concept)

The included topics are:
System analysis and models
Measuring and sensor technique
Data acquisition and processing
Control technology
Decision support systems
Designing and description of an experimental setup

 
Undervisningsform
The students will work in groups as well as individually on selected cases. Different pedagogy will be used; amount them are case works, computer analysis, problem based learning, lectures, practical, visits to the industry.
