Course Objectives
By end of course the student should be able to analyse existing production systems and to participate in developing new systems.

Course Contents
The course will define "a production system" and give principles for developing systems. The consequences of a production system for defined main objectives will be examined. Likewise, the production system as a restriction in the production will be studied. Production systems from all over the world may be involved, i.e. both temperate and tropical climate, industrial and developing countries, etc. Examples of specific systems could be organic vs. conventional, outdoor vs. indoor, loose vs. fixation, one pen from birth to slaughter vs. several pens etc.

Teaching And Learning Methods
The teaching will be problem oriented using cases from practical pig production. Students work in groups of 3-5 persons, and a report from the case(s) are delivered. These reports will not be evaluated at the examination, but may serve as starting point for the discussion at the examination. The case-work will be supported by lectures. Excursions are arranged.
