Kursets målsætning
The course provides basic qualifications for participation in research into and development of precision farming. The knowledge obtained can also be used for counselling and teaching purposes. The course enables agronomists to be the link between farmer/biologist and engineer within the subject areas.

Kursusindhold
On successful completion of the course, students:
· Know and understand the possibilities and limitations of the technological background to precision farming
· Can perform basic measurements and calculations
· Know about the methodology of more complicated measurements and calculations and are therefore capable of handling negotiations with companies and institutions performing such measurements and calculations.

The content of the course is:
· Fundamental technology
· Basic metrology, measuring uncertainty, mechanical measurements (force, pressure and flow) and temperature measurement
· Sensor technology and applications, including optical (basic and image generation), acoustic, chemical and biological, other electromagnetic sensors.
· Geographical positioning systems (GPS)
· Signal conditioning and transmission
· Signal analysis, including image processing, multivariate methods, timeseries and artificial intelligence
· Control systems, including actuators, feedback and stability
· Tractor computers and monitors, other commercial equipment. Standards.

The course is adapted to fit into the NOVA semester-package Technology for Crop Production.
An increasing amount of agricultural equipment and machinery is based on advanced sensor systems and mechantronics, and the main development potential is to be found within these areas. The course is designed to provide students with a first hand perception of the possibilities and practices related to the use of advanced technology in the production of plants.

Undervisningsform
The course is mainly focussed on project work involving experimental exercises, discussions and problem solving. Certain theoretical subjects of the course are introduced during lectures.
