Kursets målsætning
The course provides the students with a deeper understanding of the experimental work used within different aspects of animal biotechnology. It is aimed at providing hands on experimental experience and theoretical background within selected fields of Animal Genetics, Cell Biology, Reproductive Biology - particular embryotechnology and Pharmacology. Passing the course will enable the students to understand and apply information from the scientific literature and be able to plan experimental work.

Kursusindhold
Knowledge within the area of animal biotechnology provides the basis for research within a wide range of scientific areas at KVL as well as at other research institutions. The theme course is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Department of Animal Science and Animal Health, Department of Anatomy and Physiology, Department of Clinical Studies and Department of Pharmacology and Pathobiology. Relevant ongoing research within the areas of animal genetics, cell biology, reproductive biology in particular embryotechnology and pharmacology will form the basis for teaching.
The theme course forms a final synthesizing element of the M.Sc. education and it is a preparation for M.Sc. project.

Undervisningsform
Each year a number of topics are chosen based on ongoing research within the area of animal biotechnology at the four departments involved in the course. These topics will be announce before the course is starting so that interested students can apply and form project groups (2-4 students per group). One or two teachers will be allocated to each project group. The students and teacher(s) prepare the project description and a list of relevant literature jointly. The theoretical part of the project is discussed in colloquia and the experimental part is conducted in the laboratories at the four departments involved.
