| The aim of the course is to introduce the student to Agroforestry as an integrated tree and crop production system in the tropics and subtropics. | |||||||||||
| Kursusindhold | |||||||||||
| The subjects included are: ·classification of Agroforestry systems i.e. shifting cultivation, alley cropping, taungya, home gardens etc., ·the most important tree and crop species used, ·the multipurpose tree concept, ·interactions between species, ·tree and crop production, ·species impact on soil and considerations on soil productivity and protection, ·the importance of animal husbandry to Agroforestry, ·subsistence and cash crop economy, ·socio-economic and socio-cultural considerations. Having passed the course successfully the student will hold a good knowledge of what the possibilities are of running a system based on Agroforestry. This may be a basis for specialisation through the master thesis or it may be useful in relation to work with land use planning. | |||||||||||
